Jim French Swim Scholarship

Jim French Swim Scholarship

Jim French was a beloved community member.  He dedicated his life to Trinity County through education, music, theater and local service groups.  As a youngster, Jim is reported to have hiked and swam in every river and lake he found!  What many may not know is that every summer, Jim would arrive at the pool with his grandson to register for swim lessons.  He would sit under the umbrella watching his young grandson become a stronger swimmer and enjoy the water.  The duo of Jim and Finn would attend open swims and Jim would take his place under the umbrella to enjoy watching Finn and his friends play in the pool.  He would stop and chat with pool staff to share a thought or a story.  Each year, he would let pool managers know that if there was a kid that couldn’t afford lessons, he himself or his beloved Weaverville Lion’s Club would like to take care of the fee.  His love for family and community continues to shine in Trinity County.  While sharing pool stories with the love of his life, wife Carla, the Jim French Swim Scholarship was created!  Carla honors Jim’s memory in creating this amazing opportunity for area youth to be water safe.  Qualified applicants ages 6-18, will receive one full session of group swim lessons.

This is a living scholarship to be funded by community donations.
